Biobinders (binders manufactured from biomass) are becoming popular in asphalt engineering due to growing environmental concerns of greenhouse gas emissions the use fossil fuels and depleting petroleum bitumen reserves. Waste biomass products sources particular interest their widespread availability impact on sustainability, however, they generally need be thermochemically treated before being used as biobinders. Although biobinders can exhibit good performance terms resisting common distresses affecting road pavements, still relatively unknown uncertainty around them discourages further use. In this context, review aims at providing a link between thermochemical conversion technologies respective that may pavement engineering.
